Tony Stewart made his return to racing at the Atlanta Motor Speedway, after being involved in a tragic accident. On August 9th and killed 20 year old Kevin Ward Jr. at Canandaigua Speedway.

Immediately following the incident, many people accused him of being a murderer, and claiming that he purposely killed the 20 year old local New York sprint car driver. After taking a 3-race break to grieve and reflect over all that has happened, Tony Stewart climbed back intothe No. 14 Bass Pro Shop Chevrolet in Atlanta.

Stewart qualified 12th for the start of the Oral-B 500, and worked his way up to 4th place in the beginning of the race. However, on lap 122, contact was made between Stewart and the No. 18 car, driven by Kyle Busch, and Stewart hit the wall hard.

The crew was able to work on the suspension damage and get Stewart back on the track. Then, on lap 172, the front right tire blew, sending Stewart into the wall again. That was the end of his night.

His racecar had too much damage to repair. Crew chief, Chad Johnston was hoping they would have a longer night of racing. Stewart and the entire Stewart-Haas Racing team is hoping to reach the goal of clinching a spot in the 2014 Chase for the Sprint Cup.
