At their 47th Annual Chamber Awards Banquet on October 25, the Belle Glade Chamber of Commerce awarded Citizen of the Year to Leigh Woodham, Theatre Director for the Dolly Hand Cultural Arts Center on the Belle Glade Campus.

Karen Corbin-Wheeler, 2010 Citizen of the Year, lauded Woodham for her dedication to promoting and advocating for the Glades community and the Dolly Hand Cultural Arts Center. “She was never a sideline volunteer,” said Corbin-Wheeler. “She has worked tirelessly and she is able to lead and work with others to accomplish lofty goals”.

Woodham has served in many capacities, including her present position at the Dolly Hand Cultural Arts Center, where she has worked for the past 15 years. She is past president of the Belle Glade Chamber of Commerce and still serves on the Board of Directors. She was the first female president of the Belle Glade Lions Club and is a graduate of Leadership Glades and Palms West.

“When I came to Belle Glade 26 years ago, I wasn’t exactly enthusiastic,” Woodham told the audience at the banquet. “But it really didn’t take long for me to learn that this is a really special place. I feel blessed to be a part of the family of the Glades.”
